Mr. Carl Hagman: Hello, and welcome to Robert Abbott Middle School, home of the RAMS! I’m Carl Hagman, the principal of Abbott Middle School. I am so excited to start out this new year with our new Scholars, as well as our returning Scholars from the past two years. It’s a privilege to serve as the principal of Abbott and work with such a dedicated and professional staff. Abbott is filled with enthusiastic Scholars willing to learn, supportive families interested in their children’s education, and a dedicated and professional staff committed to providing Scholars with the highest quality education.

At Abbott, we provide a rigorous, standards based curriculum focused on Scholars and their individual needs. Abbott's environment is focused on preparing our Scholars to be college and career ready. And at Abbott, we believe in educating the whole child focusing on academic, as well as social emotional growth.

And as we say in the RAM family, it’s a great day to be a RAM!

August 2019

Greetings to all Ram Families!

I sincerely hope that this summer has been a great one for all of you! Mr. Ontiveros, Mr. Gaiser and I, as well as, the entire Ram Staff are really looking forward to seeing all of our Ram Scholars on August 22, 2019, for the First Day of School. School Opens at 7:10 a.m. and ends at 2:15 p.m. 6th Grade Scholars enter at Door 3, 7th Grade Door 4, 8th Grade Door 6.

It has been a very busy summer at Robert Abbott Middle School! Construction has been ongoing since school ended to install air conditioning. Contractors of all trades have been working hard on this enormous project to make certain that we are ready to open school on time. This project also includes improved ventilation in the cafeteria, which we will all be grateful for. Our outstanding Maintenance Staff has been actively upgrading the building, as well as, cleaning and preparing for our 2019-2020 school year launch.

We truly believe in all of our Scholars and that they will learn at high levels. Besides our motto, ‘It’s A Great Day to be a Ram!!” we use the phrases Ram Scholars Excel and Ram Scholars Aim to Attain. To help support our Scholars in learning and that Aim to Attain, we have been planning for an intentional and intense year of teaching and learning. We will continue to have a focused implementation of our Tier 1 curriculum that is aligned to Common Core and College and Career Readiness Standards. We want all of our Scholars to achieve at grade level. To help us continue to increase the rigor in our instruction and increase learning levels, we will be implementing Data Cycles. This means that your Scholars will be taking brief assessments that are aligned to progress toward learning these standards. This data will be used to help us inform our teaching so that we can continue to develop powerful learning environments for all Scholars. These cycles will take place every 4-6 weeks in all core classes. Please encourage your Scholars to take these and all assessments seriously as they are designed to help improve learning environments, so the Abbott can be the best middle school. Below I have included the Abbott Middle School School Improvement Goals for 2019-2020:

  • Creating rigorous learning environments reliably aligned to Common Core and College and Career Readiness standards
  • Intentional, literacy-based instruction through all content areas.
  • To develop cultures of thinking and excellence that promote cognitive engagement, thinking and student dialogue.

Parents, please know that you are always welcome at Abbott Middle School. We want to see more of you in the building and are developing some Parent Night events for the school year to see the great things happening at Abbott and to build community. Our Family and Community Engagement Liaison is also planning some Parent Learning events and of course, we will continue to hold our PTO Meetings and Coffees with the Principal. Please look for more information regarding these and other events and join us!
